What happened was a little of both. In late June 2006, the Council appointed five students to serve on the Board, replacing the temporary student directors. Their terms were effective 90 days after the Foundation's incorporation. The Council also did not act on the alumni members, essentially allowing the temporary non-student directors to renew their terms. Just like their student counterparts, the non-student directors terms were effective 90 days after the Foundation's incorporation. The end result is the current Board of five students and five alumni, with the ASM Chair as an ex-officio position. Because the Foundation has yet to have employees, the ex-officio employee-director seat remains vacant. This step has been completed.

Under
the Articles of Incorporation, there were two ways the full and permanent Board
of Directors was to be appointed. The first option was direct action by
the ASM Student Council as the appointing authority. The second was
indirect action by the Council, essentially allowing the temporary Board to
continue serving, almost through a "pocket veto."
